Freeform Wire Art Jewelry: The Book

Freeform Wire Art Jewelry Techniques

I’m so, so, pleased and nervous and excited and terrified to share this with you all. Without you I wouldn’t be here.

Here’s what the publisher has to say:

Twist, curl and wrap wire into one-of-a-kind jewelry!

Follow along with author Gayle Bird as she teaches you everything you need to know to create her signature jewelry designs. First learn the basics of color and design, then move into essential wire tutorials. From there, you’ll work your way through 20 step-by-step jewelry projects, including earrings, rings, and necklaces. By the time you finish the book, you’ll be ready to design your own statement jewelry, complete with swirling wire and dazzling gems.

View my appearance on JTV’s Jewel School and see lots about the book, including two projects shown live!

Features

  • Tutorials on the essential wire techniques, including spirals, curls and more.
  • Chapter on design gives the foundation for creating unique pieces.
  • Step-by-step directions for 20 projects.

Folks have been saying really amazing things about the book since it came out, like this fabulous review from Beading Gem:

The essence of this designer’s approach are the curls and double curls in the pieces. These form the basis of her free form work. She includes the directions of how to use just fingers to create these curls. This will take practice to accomplish but once mastered can be used for unique organic designs of your own and not copies of what Gayle does.

This instructor really made an effort to help more hesitant jewelry makers by sharing tips on the design process.

I’m excited and proud of this and I hope you find what you are looking for.

  • I love to wire wrap jewelry but being a novice my projects still com out very scappy and uneven. Maybe this book will help

  • I found out about this from B’Sue Lansdown on the B’Sue Boutiques Creative Group.
I’ve ordered it through inter-library loan and hope to get a copy in my Christmas Stocking! It looks amazing, can’t wait to read it, use it and grow in my abilities.
I’m such a newbie to this I appreciate your sharing the tutorials- I hope that more are coming available & I really apprecite the obvious skill you’re willing to share with us.

    • I’m excited that you requested it from your library! Hope Santa comes through for you 🙂 Lots of tutorials on gaylebird.com if you wanna peek over there.

  • I am new to wire jewelry, but I have seen your name everywhere. Your heart is in your work. And your creations are beautiful. Thank you sharing your knowledge and creativity with everyone. I’m inspired!

  • I am taking an online course from the New York Institute of Art and Design in Jewelry design and just purchased a few of your tutorials, they are much more in depth than the course videos. I love them and will be purchasing your book next month! Thank you so much.

  • I ran across your book at Michael’s about a week ago and got it. I was very excited because I work primarily with polymer clay and wanted to get better at wire-wrapping some of my pieces which I do sell, but was frustrated at what I’ve been able to find to learn. The book is fabulous and I’ve made several of the earrings so far, including one pair that was totally my own design, but watching this video and a couple of your others really, really helps me to see exactly how to do the techniques. I really think this will take my jewelry to a whole new level! So glad I stumbled onto you!
